It was never going to be enough anyway it wasn't compulsary in the days when I started work. If the country was to go into a depression do you imagine our money would be safe? I don't think so.

I don't trust the government with this money and I don't see why I should have to pay fees for a basic super fund. The financial advisor is not doing anything to be paid for.

I have clients who keep their money in high interest bank accounts and others invest in the stock exchange. It depends on how much risk you are willing to take on! I personally think super is the best way to go to look after your retirement but i also think you need to contribute above your employer contribution to keep the standard of living you are used to while your retired.

There's no way the super my employers contribute is going to be enough for me to retire on yet the government wants to get rid of the pension. I'm gonna have to work until I die.

if you want high return expect high risk, which means playing in the stock market. if you want a steady return then there will be a small percent of your money in "safe" or steady growth shares {banks, supermarkets - things that everybody needs and has to use, not the dot com or start up exploratory companies} some will be in land and buildings and most invested in finance - high interest deposits.

so to be honest with you i am not to sure why you are complaining unless you have all your eggs in the one basket of shares and are looking on a short term basis. all through the history of the stock markets there is a rise and then fall, a rise to higher than it was and a fall, another rise and back a bit yet again - this will always continue to happen, just accept it.

I dont like the idea of people playing with my money just to make money for themselves. The whole superannuation thing seems to just be a big money maker for the institutions involved with no regards for the people that actually earn the money to start with.
