"Hello and welcome from Istanbul where Mark Webber won his first Grand Prix for Red Bull Racing..." David Croft from the Chequered Flag podcast.
OK, I hear what you're saying but I believe Turkey is where it'll happen. Remember Button? He'll never be a winner. Then he'll never be a multiple winner. And there's no chance he'll ever be fighting for the championship. Forumla One is a fickle world. Hamilton was supposed to walk away with the title again this year. Not quite after all. So, there you have it: without a good car you won't go anywhere near the front, it is as simple as that.
Mark Webber has had two recent strong showings in both Barcelona and Monaco. I think we'll see that Red Bull's new floor with the DDD (Double Decker Diffuser) is going to work tremendously in Istanbul and Silverstone.
Button and Barrichello will be hard to beat in Silverstone for two reasons. As Alonso proved in Spain over the last two years, you drive 0.2 second faster round your home track and Jenson Button has the car he feels confident with and I'd expect him to deliver just that. As for Rubens, he usually does very well at the Northamptonshire track: 6th in '94, 4th in '96, 1st in 2000, 3rd in '01, 2nd in '02, 1st in '03, 3rd in '04, 7th in '05 and 3rd last year (you can tell he's been racing for a while).
Going back to Mark, I also feel he is getting the better over Vettel strategy wise. Remember Barcelona? He too would have been impeded by Massa's Ferrari if he didn't go long in the second stint and was only finished 0.8 second bhind second place. Mark's call.
He also keeps cool when he needs to - whereas Vettel throws his car into the first corner of the Monaco circuit.
Mark tends to have a strong pace and a good brain. Some say he needs the killer instinct. I don't think he does. He 's put some moves on Alonso over the years many other drivers wouldn't dare (Monaco 05, Japan 05 and Spain 09). Thrilling moments!
I'm sure the two podium finishes he managed this year won't have dented his confidence either. Turkey we'll be his 130th GP. It's about time he gets rewarded.
What about you? Do you think he can finally pull it out of the hat? And why is that?
