obviously the people who made the survey didn't need to distinguish between the two for THEIR study purposes. it's not all about you!
Hi the issue isn't about who is more devoted or not. Its a different name. Its different for different cultures. Its like saying in a survey 'do you belleve in God' If everyone answered you wouldn't know what religion they were, if any. Lots of people have no religion and still beleve in a creator.
So it is with married and defacto issue. Its different to differnt people, and if we are teaching in schools to be tolorent and inclusive shouldn't we respect the differences?
Why can't it be different? Do defacto people want to be married or do married people want to be defacto? Its different cause people make it different for a specific reason or reasons on both sides. Have two dots to mark and save the trouble.
Its a big issue because sometimes differences need to remain different!
In future generations instead of saying eg "Im an Australian" they will have to say "Im a Earth" Is that the same?
Kepp the differnces differnt or we will get very boring
I also object to the married / defacto being on the same line, they are simply not the same and if they want to know the answer to this question then make it clear or don't ask if I am married , single , divorced or otherwise, if the question can not be answered correctly then ignore this question.
If opinions paid does not want correct answers to your questions then keep on asking questions that don't have a correct answer to select from.
If a correct answer does not matter then why try to give any correct answer.
You need to get off your snobby stuck up soap box and grow up. How dare you call people in a defacto relationship saddos. I have met a lot of married couples that are saddos and pathetic and a marriage certificate does not help them one bit . I have been in a defacto relationship now for 12 years and could not be happier. ( am I am no less a person than you because of it)If you need a marriage certificate and need to be married to enjoy life and your relationship then your a saddo.
agree, agree, agree, I'm sick to death of this
Hi Jesse31 et al,
If the sponsor of the survey wants to analyse results with defacto and married combined then so be it.
Please bear in mind answers are reported in aggregate. As such, the fact that somebody is married or not, bears little weight in the analysis.
Nor do we care spying on people's lifestyle choices...
I hope this helps,

I believe defacto IS married
nanabrenda: Please..be it defacto or marriage as long as you both love each other and make sure you tell the person you live with that you do love them and appreciate them..because one day they may not be with you..I lost my dear husband in Jan after 2 months of illness..how I wish he was with me now...and i would have been proud to call him my husband. We would have celabrated our 50th anniversary this year...

nanabrenda , I haven't looked in on this thread for a few months, so I have only just seen your post. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss.
Thank you for your comment. It really does put this discussion into perspective. Married or defacto, anyone who is lucky enough to find someone they love and are in a commited relationship should treasure what they have, not waste time judging the way others choose to show their commitment and love.

I really don't care about what lifestyle people chose that is their choice as well as mine.
But for accuracy sake and also for future information it will save time and energy as this very long thread shows - some people feel very passionately about this topic from a personal point.
I feel passionately about it from the accuracy point of view.
Maybe the 'surveyor' is not really interested in these demographice - if not then don't incude the question, if they include the question then give all of us the option to put in the answer that applies to us as we see it
This thread would have to take the cake for perserverence.
Maybe by the year 2525 someone will get the point.
LOL

If bitterness does not affect your spirit, then it cannot affect your destiny.
Why do you strongly object? Do you think people in defacto relationships are below you?
I agree... give up on this married/defacto debate and get up with the times. We aren't in the 1950's anymore. Legally it is the same thing so get over it.
it is a catagory not a life decision
What about introducing a new, inclusive term: "partnered".
Problem solved.

I hope this helps, drdamien / OpinionsPaid This thread had gone round the Mulberry bush for so long, has gone to 'Timbukto" and back again that it is ridiculous, why don't OpinionPaid make the change. It would give all surveys more accuracy and also give information about trends in relationships which will save doing a survey about this somewhere done the line. The information about trends will already be recorded [ whoops just gave away some possible earnings] I really don't care about what lifestyle people chose that is their choice as well as mine. Hi Janina.Simons,
I did not express my view properly.
Whilst we appreciate you (and the so many other who share your views in this thread including some of us here at OP) have a view on how this piece of information is collected, it is worth mentioning we do not always have the liberty of doing so.
If the sponsor of a survey requests that both married and defacto should be shown together as a single option, we have to oblige. Ultimately, they are the ones who pay the Zoints - their call.
Worth mentioning too a lot of our surveys differentiate between married and defacto.
I hope this clears up the situation.
Yours sincerely,
