What do you think of Foster's reducing alcohol content in their beers?

Congratulations Melissa.Nichols! You have won 5000 Zoints for your reply:

I agree with GrahamMelissa ~ binge drinking and all the problems associated with excessive drinking is a serious problem in our society, and the idea that people need to be completely off their face to have a "good time" is not only unhealthy, it's sad!

Unfortunately I don't think that such a small percentage will make a major dent in the problem - but it may help a little and on the up side, it also won't be enough to change the taste of the beer. And since, unlike daniel.alexander, I drink for the taste, not for the "strength" of the beer, I personally think it's a great idea. As one of the first posters said, it's a win win!

It's also very smart of Fosters to use this as a marketing strategy. Everyone is concerned about the way prices are increasing, or will increase over the next year or so, and this is a very positive way of approaching that. I think it's great that they are looking at a more creative way to avoid raising the prices. VB has always been one of the few beers that I drink, and now I know that I still will be able to afford to drink it when I want to! That's a good thing to know.

For all those who would rather "jump ship" than be seen drinking a beer with a lower alcohol content, maybe Fosters could release a "Premium" version of VB and let them pay the extra bucks for the privilege.   Personally, as long as the flavour isn't compromised - I'll still be drinking it.
